Who We Are

Since 1977, the Sunriver Anglers have been promoting sport fishing and conservation in Central Oregon.

Our mission is:

  • To broaden the public's knowledge, understanding, and enjoyment of the sport of fishing through instruction, events, and service.
  • To encourage, advocate, and support conservation and protection of watersheds, fish habitat, and wild fish populations.
  • To provide educational opportunities for school children to learn about fish, fish habitat, and related aspects of the environment; and to learn basic fishing skills, principles of stewardship, ethical conduct, and safety around the water.
  • To promote good sportsmanship and a code of ethics among all anglers.

We support education, conservation and recreation.

  • Co-sponsor the Kokanee Karnival for area students providing educational activities related to rivers and fisheries. We provide hot dog lunches for hundreds of kids, parents and instructors at Shevlin Park over a week.
  • Oregon Free Fishing Day - we teach over 200 kids and families how to fish during free fishing day at Caldera Springs. (Provide hot dog lunches for 200 kids and families at our annual Free Fishing Day).
  • Stream restoration and habitat renewal projects.
  • Outings, seminars and presentations related to fishing and the environment.
  • Host the Sunriver Anglers annual picnic at the Fall River Hatchery.
  • Host the Anglers holiday party in December.
  • Provide Three Rivers School kids with education on rearing trout eggs.
  • Raise funds in support of the Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife fisheries programs. (In 2015, we purchased $500 of Blackwater Trout eggs from BC).
  • Co-host the Fall River Hatchery youth education program for school kids.
  • Hold ten monthly meetings on how and where to fish.
  • Put on four or more fishing outings to Central Oregon lakes and rivers.
  • Volunteer for fish rescue and fish habitat projects.

Sunriver Angler monthly meetings are held at the Sunriver SHARC 6:45 to 8 pm on the third Thursday of the month, except August and December. Members and Public invited.

Since 2006, the Sunriver Anglers has invested over $180,000 in improving sport fishing in Central Oregon, supporting organizations working on stabilizing water flows on the Upper Deschutes and Little Deschutes Rivers, removing invasive fish from our high lakes, providing scholarships to OSU students and partnering with Federal, State, County and other groups.

Over the years the Sunriver Anglers has purchased tools for the Summit High School Advanced Biology class, completed interpretive sign projects at the Fall River Hatchery and in Sunriver and donated fish incubators to Three Rivers School for biology classes. The Club supports ODFW Crane Prairie fish genetics study, Oregon Trout/Deschutes Watershed Council's Healthy Waters Institute, Deschutes River Conservancy and the Upper Deschutes River Coalition.
